Been a few years since I've spoken of the Red Sox...

Last time I felt truly inspired and posted to the Sons of Sam Horn website was back during the 2007 World Series run (Lord of the Red Sox).

(release date 10/22/13)

Turns out the Two Masterminds in the deck are Galactus and Mole Man....

The 20 fight is impressive...but you can counter that with the Cosmic Threat which lets you pick a hero color and for every card of that color you play this turn, Galactus strength drops by 2. So when building your hand during the game focusing on a color will be very important vs. Galactus.

Also Silver Surfer has a new ability called Focus.

Guess that if you reach the "6" recruit that kicks off the "Focus" ability. Betting you do not get to use the recruit at that point...but we shall see.

Have a great day all...

So some of you know we are upgrading our home. Taking the 25 year old doublewide off the full foundation and putting up a two story colonial modular home. A new "Hat" as it were for the Gamers Bullpen. Here are the Floorplans...needless to say we are very excited and hope to be in our new home by Thanksgiving.

Our foundation is actually 52' so we took these plans and added 8' to each side in various places (Larger bedrooms pretty much.) There is actually a little addition on to these plans as well, we have a small 12' x 12' room where the mudroom / bullpen stairway used to be. There will be an archway from the dining room to this new "Sun room". Anyway...Bullpen access will now be in the center of the house.

On to the Game updates.

Dreadball Season 3 stuff should be here "Soon" hopefully before the end of the month.

Kingdom Death: Monster has been pushed back to Q1 2014 at least. I have no issues with this...it is a huge game...New price on the Box will be between $150 and $200, glad I dropped the $100 on the kickstarter. Still thinking about Magnetizing the whole game, making the players minis upgradeable as they upgrade their characters in the game....we shall see though. Rated R game...not one for the kiddos.

Legendary Fantastic Four is due out in October...looking forward to that. Got to play 3 games this past weekend of Legendary with 5 players...only won one of the games. Still good times were had.

Played a round of Robinson Crusoe with the kids...unlike Legendary...the ages 12+ suggestion on the box is there for a reason...will be a couple of years before I break this one out again with my 9 year old daughter....much longer for my 5 year old son.

Forbidden Island is still a hit with the kids. Glad I grabbed this one...

Warhammer 40K on the backburner...boxed up and packed away until the new house is finished.

Same with Battletech / Alpha Strike...

October 19th I'll be bringing both Legendary and Robinson Crusoe to the Boardgame geek meetup in Brunswick. http://mainegamer.tumblr.com/post/18390343950/3rd-annual-northern-new-england-bgg-user-meet-up

One final note...Though I signed up to be an assistant coach...I'm now the head coach of my Sons soccer / Bunchball team. Should be fun times.

That is all for now.

First two upcoming Expansions for Legendary, the Marvel Co-Op deckbuilding game.

The first of which is the Fantastic Four set, 100 Cards...Due out Oct 22nd. Adds the Fantastic Four, and Silver Surfer as Characters, plus Galactus as a Mastermind with none other than a 20 attack! Kinda makes Apocalypse with is 12 look like a kitten.

2nd is the just announced at GenCon, SpiderMan Expansion. No Details other than Carnage as a Mastermind and the Spidey in it will be a lot tougher than the one in the original game. February release date planned.

Next is a New Legendary box that is not Marvel based....Legendary Encounters. Roughly the same engine but not exactly the same. Based in the Aliens Universe....Ripley, Apone, Hudson, Hicks, etc. vs the Aliens. Game Producer has said you can use the Heroes or Colonial Marines in the other Legendary games. So You want Nick Fury to lead a new squad of "SHIELD Marines" against Kingpin you can...or put Colossus, Wolverine, Rogue, Storm and Cyclops against the Alien Queen (Brood anyone) you can do that too. Not fully interchangeable, sounds like the only thing that can be swapped about is the Hero decks...still that is pretty neat.

Finally the game that is on my Most wanted list. I spent quite some time watching the Gen Con live feed from Board Game Geeks looking for other games that might fit well with the family and the gaming group. Came across this one that came out last year. Robinson Crusoe, Adventure on the Cursed Island.

Fully co-op, 1-4 players, survival game. Game is busy with a lot going on...cards, cubes, dice, hextiles, deckbuilding (in a bad way). Has been said it is VERY challenging to win...making LoTR co-op game seem easy. Also no cutthroat version if one player dies, the game is over. No hoarding food for yourself. 6 Scenarios in the box, each with their own theme (Crusoe/Castaway, Swiss Family Robinson, Volcano Island, Cannibal Island, Cursed Island, and the one that I'm forgetting) Plus two more scenarios online (King Kong, and Explore the Galapagos).

Being on the lookout for any new one that may strike my interest, the interest of my gaming group, or even the interest of my Wife and Kids (now 8 and 5 years old).

I have Kingdom Death: Monster on the way...pretty sure that will be a non-starter for the Kiddos and Wife. I have numerous Dreadball teams having gotten one for each of the kids. Still they are a few years from really enjoying Dreadball. Then I discovered "Legendary" the new Deck building card game by Upperdeck.

Basics of the game work like this, 1-5 players take on the game. There is a Mastermind Villain that the heroes are trying to take down. This Mastermind has a Scheme (Read as what nefarious plot they are trying to achieve). They also have other Villains and Henchmen assisting them in their goals. Opposing them are 5-6 heroes.

The players play these Heroes but not in the way that you would initially think. This is a Deck "Building" Game. So with the expansion there are 32 playable heroes, 31 different ones and Wolverine get 2 versions...well because his is Wolverine. Each of these heroes has 14 cards. So the players select the 5 heroes they want to use and all of those cards go into a "Hero Deck" All the players get their own personal deck which starts with a 12 SHIELD agent / trooper cards that can be spent to recruit the "Hero" cards that come into play. So as these Heroes are recruited, they are added to that players personal discard pile. When their current player's deck is empty they reshuffle all their discarded cards to restock their draw deck.

There is a high replay value as with the Dark City expansion there are 9 Mastermind villains with 16 Schemes, 13 villain groups, and 6 Henchmen groups. Which can be randomized, or even pre-selected if you wanted to re-create a major Marvel storyline (Avengers movie, Inferno, Legacy Virus, Civil War...etc)

Here are a list of the Heroes currently in the game...
The Box says ages 14+...though after watching a couple of videos of the gameplay, I'm fairly certain my 8 year old can handle it. My 5 year old, will play with Dad, or have a hand of his own face up for me to help him with.

Should be getting the game in a couple of days

Here is a video of the basic gameplay...looking forward to flipping some cards with you.
Yep, I am surfing the wave that is Kickstarter popularity right now. Anyway...this Boardgame project (Kingdom Death: Monster) will not actually hit store shelves until Novemeber 2013, but the idea and gameplay looked too interesting to pass up.

Here is a video that goes over the basic premise of the game:

Love the look of the minis, how the game will play and that the group will be sitting around the table working together rather than against one another. As a mini painter / modder, I look forward to the challenge this game will present.

I ended up bidding enough in the Kickstarter to get the base game and the Dragon king expansion. I'm sure if it takes off with the group, I'll get more expansions later. Convincing the Wife to play will also be a challenge...but a worthy one.

That is all for now...

Add on...Found a really neat article about painting fleshtones over on BOLS...(putting it here so I don't lose it when I actually get the minis this winter.)
Computer game wise...playing World of Tanks, Star Trek Online. Tried Mechwarrior Online, but it made me motion sick. Played through Diablo III once...was good. Waiting on Marvel Heroes, Mechwarrior Tactics, and Neverwinter currently

That's all for now. I'll attempt to post more often.
Form up a platoon and have some fun.

Official Rules.

1) Three Racing classes. T3, T5 and Unlimited. This is the highest tier vehicle you will be allowed to take. Most of the races are T3.

2) Race is Counter-Clockwise around the map.

3) Race takes the longest possible "Roadway" around the map that goes through the enemy base. (Edit: Maps and Racing courses below)

4) Stay on the road, if you have to pass, pass on the roadway or on the outside.

5) No shooting your fellow racers. If there are racers on the other team, chances are you will not see them, as you are both supposed to be racing counter clockwise. If you do see them, treat them just like in any other match (Do I shoot the fellow Gang member or the other guy?).

6) Race is Two and a half laps. Meaning twice around the map and back to the opponents flag. First one into the opponents cap area is the winner. If your still alive at that point try to win the match for your team.

7) If no one makes it the 2.5 laps, it is the racer that makes it the furthest.

8) No Bump drafting. Try not to run into your fellow racers. Chances are you will damage your own tracks anyway.

9) Stopping to let others go first, or engaging the enemy are all valid tactics in the race. So long as you get back on the course where you left it.

Now for the Race courses...
So I'm not normally one for Horror movies. Actually I never see them as I think they are stupid. This is probably due to my irrational fear of sharks, and that nothing really scares me as much as them. Anyway, I just heard about this movie, Panzer 88, that is about a German Tank crew in the Russian north, that uncovers some evil entity.
Well you can see in my other blogs, I've been busy painting / playing 40k. But in my non-tabletop time I've been playing Star Trek Online. You are a d8: You are the true adventurer! Dragons rescued, princesses slayed, and all that business while O Fortuna plays in the background. Your social calender is crammed with heroic deeds, and you've personally saved the world from ultimate destruction at least twice. You are reliable, perhaps a bit predictable, but overall a shining example of what happens when courage meets determination.
Most of you know I work Security at a University. Well, I'm doin my job, driving around campus and I see this guy, whom I'll refer to as Skatepunk from this point forth, on a skateboard. Skatepunk doesn't have on a helmet / pads or even a shirt. To make things even more interesting he is being pulled through the parking lot by an SUV going about 30 miles an hour.

The Driver, aka DriverDude, of the SUV sees me, and rather than stopping, drives off campus with the Skatepunk in tow. They pull into a parking lot of a business just across the street from the University. So I park the car in a position I can watch them to make sure they don't come back on campus. I got Boston Sports talk radio and a new Dunkin Donuts Large coffee cream only, I'm good for a nice long wait. After about 15 minutes, Skatepunk and DriverDude walk away from the car with the skateboard and walk into the Civic Center parking lot to "Skate". After another 10 minutes, "Artsy Granola girl who was in the SUV and doesn't want to get into trouble" starts up the SUV and drives back on campus. I've seen ArtsyGirl before, she is an art student on campus and a good kid. DriverDude and Skatepunk see her drive off and give a "Where the heck are you goin?" look with palms up. I stay where I am and watch, slowly Skatepunk and DriverDude walk back onto campus at which point I approach them. I only catch up to DriverDude as Skatepunk has decided to walk fast and keeps walking as I start talking to DriverDude who is carrying the skateboard. I explain to DriverDude that I appreciate the exuberance of youth and but there is No skateboarding on Campus especially behind SUV's going about 30 miles an hour. If your friend wants to get himself killed, that is fine with me, just don't do it on campus...too much paperwork. Ok I didn't say that last part...but I really wanted to. DriverDude is like "Oh, OK...can I carry my skateboard?" I tell him yes and let him go on his way.

I drive over to the parking lot I originally saw the Skateboard/SUV event and see the SUV with ArtsyGirl in it. I see Skatepunk and DriverDude walk toward the SUV, skateboard in hand, and they are join by "PoorBastard" who looks like he just got out of class. They stand around and talk for a bit. Skatepunk climbs on top of the SUV looks around, hops back down. ArtsyGirl, walks towards a building with books in hand, probably going to class.

PoorBastard climbs into a MiniVan, DriverDude and Skatepunk hop into the back seat. PoorBastard drives off, only Skatepunk decides that he wants to be different and fight they system by leaving his passenger door open as they are driving though the parking lot. Yeah, I don't got to follow the rules...yeah, I'm young a full of angst.

So I start up my vehicle and follow them to make sure Skatepunk doesn't jumpout at speed to do some more surfskating, ala Marty McFly. They leave campus and get to big 4 way intersection on the main roadway, door still open. I pull into the last parkinglot on campus to watch them and make sure they leave for good. PoorBastard drives through the intersection, up a hill, and past motorcycle police officer that is just off the side of the road, with the door still open. They get pulled over, and I have a good chuckle that is too good not to share.Ranger Robhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07838194883407838979noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1416821200925603447.post-92062326966107946742009-04-06T21:13:00.003-04:002009-04-06T21:22:40.628-04:00Random Musings...Been a while since I posted here, so here is my monthly installment.

1) I've caught the painting bug. which is a very good thing. Been far too long since I've made any serious progress with my painting hobby. You can see what I've been up to over in my three army project logs.

2) The baseball season started today. I'll be a Red Sox homer and say they are the team to beat this year. They have solid pitching both starters and bullpen and they are deeeeeep, with 7 starters and 4 guys that could be closers on other teams. The lineup is solid 1-7...if 8 and 9 can have average years, the Sox will win it all again.

3) 40k is the game of choice at the moment. I've been spending my free listening to the guys over at 40k radio.com They have a weekly show that they talk for 2 hours about 40k.
http://www.40kradio.com

4) This last weekend there was probably the biggest indy 40k convention Adepticon in Chicago.
While looking over some of the images I saw the most beautiful Eldar Army I have ever seen. I now have a goal. To some day paint as well as this guy.
www.gmmstudios.com

That is all for now.Ranger Robhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07838194883407838979noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1416821200925603447.post-71540923339899166182009-03-13T22:09:00.002-04:002009-03-13T22:13:06.683-04:00Hey Folks,

I got to roll some dice today. It was nice playing a very little bit down in the bullpen. However I was a little embarased that a grand total of 1 figure on the table was completely painted.

Something must be done about this.

So I went a little nuts, and made three new blogs. One for each 40k army that I have. I plan on updating these sites as i finish painting stuff...and keeping the Gamers Bullpen blog, for everything not related to those 3 armies. I added the new links over to the right.

Enjoy,
RangerRobRanger Robhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07838194883407838979noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1416821200925603447.post-22911382327827463662009-02-26T16:34:00.004-05:002009-02-26T16:45:46.558-05:00Just another reason John Elway is the greatest football player...ever.

I know it is the "slow" time of year for football. Never really talk much football, much more into Baseball. My favorite football player of all time is John Elway. In my opinion the greatest football player to ever play the game. He carried 3 teams to superbowls with a group of wide receivers that would barely make other clubs, only to lose the big game. Then when he finally got some help in the form of a running game, he goes on to win two. His receivers came up with a term called the "Elway Cross"...it's what they called the little cross shaped bruise the football left on them when Elway zipped a pass to them.

Anyway, I saw this article and had to share.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3930609

Years after retiring, he is still the man.
Ranger Robhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07838194883407838979noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1416821200925603447.post-88568738404292963682009-02-13T16:21:00.002-05:002009-02-13T17:20:49.624-05:00Spring is coming soon!
Sounds of Spring!

I also heard to day that Takashi Saito is going to wear #24 for the Sox this year.

When I got my Sox jersey with the #24 on it...it was for Dwight Evans, my favorite Red Sox of all time. Been a while so what has Ranger Rob been up to.

I've got a couple of things on my workbench at the moment.

#1) Epic Eldar. A good friend of mine gave me an entire Epic Eldar army. I've been playing with Army builder and basing these tiny beauties. I was all excited to paint them up....when I realized I was out of primer. Do I spend $8 on a can of paint or $8 more dollars on the kids for christmas... Yeah, so the eldar got pushed to the side.

#2) Another Tac Marine Squad, and Dreadnaught for the Greenhouse Guardians. Doing quite a Mod job on the Dreadie. Using leftover parts from Leman Russes and a Land Raider to make this Dreadnaught a Quad Autocannon beast...lengthing the legs to make him taller. Might add some armor plates around the waist to give him an "Armored Kilt" look.

That's it for tabletop stuff...I'll post some pics of the dreadie when he is finished.

On the PC gaming front, pretty slow there. Been fooling around with a Free MMO called Atlantica.
I've been regularly checking the forums over at the Star Trek Online website. That game looks like it will be pretty sweet when it is released Winter 2009.

That's all for now... Hope you all had a great Turkey Day.Ranger Robhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07838194883407838979noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1416821200925603447.post-67995816201846065962008-10-17T14:29:00.003-04:002008-10-17T14:51:09.403-04:00The Cap...

So I got this new Red Sox cap last year...

Pretty different, got a lot of comments on it...

Anyway, I started wearing it to work last year during the Sox playoff run...the run where they lost 3 in a row to Cleveland. So I wear it in the night the Sox are facing elimination to Cleveland. Barry, one of the guys that works in my building and has commented on my new cap, comes into my office with a piece of paper in his hand. He picks up my cap and throws it into one of the cabinets and closes the cabinet door. He then takes a piece of tape and tapes the paper he brought in to the door of the cabinet. It read...

Rob's Doomsday Cap
DO NOT OPEN UNTIL AFTER WORLD SERIES
Not a "LUCKY" Cap!

We had a good laugh, and I left the hat in that cabinet that night...The sox Won that game, so the Cap stayed in the cabinet for the rest of the playoffs and Boston Won the World Series.

When the Sox made the playoffs this year, brought the cap in to work, put it in the same cabinet. The sign Barry had made was still hanging on the inside of the cabinet door (Musta put it there after I took the cap out last year.) Barry had a good laugh when he saw the sign, and checked for the cap.

About 10pm last night, The Sox are losing 5-0, Barry comes into my office, Opens the cabinet, takes out the cap and puts it on my head. He then says..."It's not working, we got to try something else." Then after giving up two more runs, the Sox manage to score 8 runs in 2 1/3 innings and win the game. Just happens to be the greatest comeback in a playoff game in the last 75 years.

Just had to share...Ranger Robhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07838194883407838979noreply@blogger.com1
